The kind of welding that most people have in mind usually involves welding either iron or steel, and this is something that can be done with MIG welding. There is a pretty good chance that these are the only two kinds of welding that you are currently cognizant of, but suffice it to say that neither of them is all that ideal when it comes to metals like aluminum. While MIG welding can be used on aluminum in a pinch, it is usually considered a last resort that you would only ever use if you have absolutely no other options that you could end up looking into.
Instead of using welding techniques that are better off being implemented for other materials, it would be far better if you used GTAW for welding aluminum. This stands for Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, and it has the potential to secure aluminum so firmly that nothing will be able to pry it apart ever again. The fact of the matter is that aluminum is a material that people should really start to appreciate more, since the truth of the situation is that it is used in all kinds of things that you might take for granted.
This welding technique is a few levels higher than MIG welding which is why most MIG welders usually can’t come close to mastering it. We feel like newbie welders should start learning GTAW sooner rather than later, since that would result in them getting the chance to acquire a skill level that is far beyond their peers and that would enable them to get much better jobs as well both from an income and career perspective.
